Miscellaneous Tidbits: Gas Pipelines (9/03): Following the recent bursting of gas pipelines in
southern Arizona, which resulted in some nearby new homes actually being damaged
by the spraying of leaking gas, I read an article that stated that one can call
the federal "Office of Pipeline Safety" to get a list of pipeline
operators in your county or zip code. You can then call the company to find out
if a line runs on or near the property under consideration. Rule of 72's: The Rule of 72 is a way to figure out how long it
will take to double your money at various rates of growth. Imagine your $5,000
investment is earning 6% annually. Take 72 and divide it by 6 and you see that
it will take ABOUT 12 years to double your money to $10,000. The Rule’s
results are NOT precise, but are pretty close up to a 15% rate of return. |
