Miscellaneous Tidbits:

Gas Pipelines (9/03): Following the recent bursting of gas pipelines in southern Arizona, which resulted in some nearby new homes actually being damaged by the spraying of leaking gas, I read an article that stated that one can call the federal "Office of Pipeline Safety" to get a list of pipeline operators in your county or zip code. You can then call the company to find out if a line runs on or near the property under consideration.

As pointed out by Michelle Lind, Arizona Association of Realtors, "...buyers, who are many times making the biggest financial commitment of their lives, need to take responsibility for investigating their purchase." Couldn't agree more--see our Mission Statement!!

Rule of 72's: The Rule of 72 is a way to figure out how long it will take to double your money at various rates of growth. Imagine your $5,000 investment is earning 6% annually. Take 72 and divide it by 6 and you see that it will take ABOUT 12 years to double your money to $10,000. The Rule’s results are NOT precise, but are pretty close up to a 15% rate of return.

The Rule also works in reverse. If you want to double your money in 9 years, just divide 72 by 9 and you see that you need an average growth rate of  roughly 8%.
